1. Not cleansing at night
It is so important to cleanse before bed every evening in order to wash off makeup and pollutants that become embedded in the pores throughout the day. This allows our skin to breathe throughout the night and replenish nutrients that it needs to look healthy and therefore youthful. Waiting till the morning will stop this from happening, skin will be dehydrated and you’d be more likely to have blocked pores and congestion. Top tip- cleanse your skin the moment you get home from a busy day, then you don’t have to think about it before going to bed!
2. Not wearing SPF
UVA and UVB rays are both very harmful to the skin and contribute to the aging of the skin. These can damage our skin cells even when the sun isn’t shining. Wearing SPF is your skins armor that you must wear everyday (even when out on your morning run!)
3. Not hydrating your skin
Hydrating serums and moisturizers are essential to keeping the skin looking youthful. If the skin is kept hydrated it will look brighter and more radiant.
4. Not using an AHA or BHA
Light exfoliation will help to accelerate the skin cell turnover, which essentially means it will help to shed the dead skin on the surface, allowing the skin to renew. This will help to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles and can help with any skin concerns you may have.
5. Overloading your skin
Having too many products can overload your skin and prevent you from getting results. You don’t want to over-exfoliate or over-moisturise as it can lead to dryness, irritation and congestion.
6. Inconsistent skincare routine
Keeping your skincare routine simple is the perfect way to keep consistent, we often find it hard to stick to a routine that takes too long to get through! With a simple routine, you’re more likely to stick to it, not get overwhelmed and in turn your skin will benefit and you’ll see results.
7. Sleep
Getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night will help to improve the overall health of your skin. Sleep allows your skin to renew throughout the night, stimulating your skin cells and working to repair damage.
8. Smoking
Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin which starves your skin of nutrients which make it look younger and brighter. It can also cause premature wrinkles and discolouration, so best to avoid!
