1 hour of Yoga Nidra is as restful as 4 hours of conventional sleep.

A few of the benefits confirmed by the medical field are increased immune function, digestive function, and better sleep. The gifts of Yoga Nidra are the releasing of old habits and thought patterns and reducing fatigue, worry, and stress.

Yoga Nidra can be practised by anyone of any age, size or shape. This is not a physical exercise, but a technique for physical rejuvenation, mental relaxation, spiritual growth, and overall wellness. According to yogic thought, unregulated stress is the root of most physical and mental ailments today. The secret of Yoga Nidra (and to better health) lies in its ability to relieve tension and stress at its root and restore a balanced state of mind and a deeply rested body.

You can do anything in Yoga Nidra so, even though our “normal” lifestyles are restricted presently, we can live on through our world of Yoga Nidra.

Yoga Nidra or “yogic dreaming” is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It is the “going-to-sleep” stage and is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of audio instructions. It is a systematic method of inducing deep physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. The practice is done while lying down on one’s back. The eyes are closed and the body is made completely comfortable. This state of consciousness is different to meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. It involves deep relaxation with inner awareness.

In this Foundation Course you will learn the basic stages/steps of Yoga Nidra, the background and science behind it and how to use the practise in order to clear subconscious patterns, create new ones and awaken deeper states of awareness.

Yoga Nidra will assist you in tapping into your highest potential, allow you to access dream and deep sleep states with consciousness and approach life with more empowerment.

There will be 5 sessions via Zoom of 75 minutes each forming this Yoga Nidra Foundation Course.

No previous experience is required.
All are welcome to join the sessions. For students’ reviews, please click here: http://www.thelotussanctuary.com/reviews/

A rug or mat, blanket and cushion is all that is required or you can do the session sitting up against a wall or sitting in a chair, if preferred.

In 2010, Hridayatma swapped her job as a Partner in a law firm for 2 months in India to train as a yoga teacher with a traditional Sivananda Yoga School, Aarsha Yoga Vidya. The course inspired her so much that she has since returned to India at least once a year for a minimum of one month to enjoy ashram life, practise yoga and meditation and participate in ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation programmes. During these times and through her own practice, she has learned much more about yoga both on and off the mat.

In 2018, Hridayatma (Helen) completed a Meditation Teacher Training Course for Yoga Teachers with Swami Saradananda Saraswati (https://yogamentor.yoga/), following which she spent several months in India teaching asanas, practising Satyananda Yoga and studying and practising various meditations from the Tantras, including Yoga Nidra, in a small slice of paradise, Shankar Prasad Ashram (http://shankarprasad.org.in/).

In 2019, Hridayatma embarked on a pilgrimage across India and took Mantra Diksha (initiation into a mantra, which forms the link between Guru and disciple), Jignasu Diksha (for aspirants who serve humanity and perform spiritual practices to cultivate certain qualities in life and become a good citizen) and a spiritual name (Hridayatma) from her Guru, Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati, at the Bihar School of Yoga in Rikhia, India. She also completed the auspicious pilgrimage kora (circuit) of Mount Kailash believed to bring good fortune and help attain enlightenment. It is believed that anyone who completes the kora will clear away the sins of a lifetime.

Hridayatma also qualified as a Yoga Nidra Teacher in 2019 after completing a 200 hour Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Course (YNTTC) at Shankar Prasad Ashram in South India and enjoyed an extended stay in the Ashram teaching Yoga Nidra after the YNTTC.

ONLINE – Mental Imagery for Body Goals Course

with Ermina Isanovic

3 Sessions:

Mental imagery / visualisation is an evidence based method used to help individuals change unwanted behaviours, thoughts and feelings, lowering anxiety, stress, depression and improving self esteem, confidence and happiness.

I use visualisation to help clients achieve their goals anything from bringing them to a deep state of relaxation to helping them increase assertiveness, stop jealousy, build healthy self image, public speaking and achieve their physical goals.

Visualisation is not only used to cope with psychological challenges such as anxiety and depression, but it has been used extensively in sport and bodybuilding.

In his 2004 study on everyday people, Guang Yue, an exercise psychologist from Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, compared “people who went to the gym with people who carried out virtual workshops in their heads” (mental imagery). He found that a 30% muscle increase in the group who went to the gym. However, the group of participants who conducted mental exercises of the weight training increased muscle strength by almost half as much (13.5%). This average remained for 3 months following the mental training.

So how can mental imagery help with obtaining physical / fitness goals?

Images stimulate the sensory and emotional qualities of the desired experience, acting as a motivational bridge to support achievement of the goal and giving weight to concrete, familiar and easy to imagine goals (eating, exercising, being warm) over more abstract, long-term goals (getting fit, growing muscle).

Psychosomatic is an interdisciplinary field exploring the relationships among psychological, and behavioural factors on bodily processes and quality of life.

Psychosomatics or the body and mind school of thought isn’t anything new, athletes have practised their shots mentally before taking the winning shot since competitive sport was invented, the difference between winning an Olympic medal or not is the amount of time the athlete practiced their skills in their mind.

In 2018 University of Plymouth and Queensland University did a study and found that overweight people lost an average of five times more weight using Functional Imagery Training (FIT) a brief individual motivational intervention that teaches self-motivating skills using mental imagery, compared with talking therapy alone.

Below is the outline of the 3 session course to help you understand what to expect. Each session is one hour long and is done once a week.

Session one:

  • Learn how mental imagery works.
  • Learn how images and words we expose our selves to on a daily bases that we are not even aware of influence our thoughts, emotions and behaviour.
  • Clarify what the body goal we want to achieve.
  • Learn how to choose the right images to create mood-boards that will help rather then hinder us in obtaining our body goal.
  • Homework: create your body goal mood board

Session two:

  • Mental imagery session for achieving the end body goal
  • Clarify familiar and easy to imagine goals that will help us achieve our body goal.
  • Homework: adjust mood-board to include easy to imagine goals

Session three:

  • Mental imagery session for achieving our body goal and the steps required to achieving it.
  • Mood-board final exercise

All participants get one-on-one 15 minute session once a week with Ermina Isanovic.

Introduction to Teaching Yoga Nidra with Laurent Roure

What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation in which the distractions of the brain are contained, and the mind is allowed to be free. During this practice, one appears to be asleep, but the consciousness is functioning at a deeper level of awareness. Yoga Nidra has had a profound transformative effect on those who initiate its powers.

The duration of each yoga Nidra varies between fifteen and one hours, depending on the general level of the students in the class. Yoga Nidra is accessible for everyone, even those who have never practiced yoga before.

Yoga Nidra has a wide range of therapeutic benefits; for instance, it can be a useful tool in managing the symptoms of stress, anxiety and insomnia. Furthermore, its soothing and relaxing character makes it a valuable addition to the healing journey associated with serious illnesses. Furthermore, yoga Nidra offers an opportunity to access a sense of inner peace and satisfaction which is invaluable to say the least.

Laurent Roure has been offering yoga Nidra as a part of his classes, retreats, courses and workshops for over a decade now. He was trained classically by the Bihar School of Yoga and incorporates these teachings into his approach which has been specially formulated for the contemporary citizen. Laurent’s approach is practical, meditative, therapeutic and accessible to everyone who needs to inject physical, emotional and spiritual support in their life.

The Benefits of Yoga Nidra

  • Induces relaxation and facilitates bodily and mental restoration.
  • Minimises, manages and counteracts the effects of stress, anxiety and depression.
  • Creates healthy relationships with our thoughts.
  • Manages sleep disorders and insomnia.
  • Enhances memory and learning capacity.
  • Supports meditation techniques.
  • Clears up the unconscious and awakens creativity.
  • Allows us to get in touch with our inner self.

Who is this training for?
Laurent is pleased to offer a well-structured, concise, practical training for anyone who wants to offer yoga Nidra teacher training as part of their bodywork classes, to private clients or within health-care.

The training starts with the traditional aspects of yoga Nidra within the yogic tradition but will also offer non-dogmatic and creative training using additional alternatives techniques from different non-yogic systems alongside Laurent’s own guided relaxations, breathwork, pranayama and meditation techniques. With these different tools in hand, participants on the course will be equipped to offer practices with varying themes that can be used in a range of settings with students of different needs.

The training is thus open to yoga teachers, movement teachers, complementary therapists, psychotherapists and counsellors, nurses and anyone else who would like to incorporate yoga Nidra into their therapeutic and health care settings. This course is also available to anyone who would like to acquire the knowledge and the wisdom of yoga Nidra and use it for their own discovery and self-practice.

Besides health and wellbeing on a physical level, the training is also intended to raise awareness of the importance of yoga Nidra and meditation for mental and spiritual health. We need more yoga Nidra teachers and practitioners in the world, to help restore harmony and balance, which is so often lacking in modern life.

What are the aims and objectives of the training?
