Setting the tone for a positive and productive day starts as soon as your eyes open.
- The first thought that comes to my mind is Gratitude. I’m grateful for having another day in my life to do what I love doing. To be with the ones I love. Gratitude.
As a Reiki practitioner, the 5 Reiki Principles automatically come to my mind as soon as I switch off my alarm. These wonderful principles are not exclusive to practitioners but are open to everyone to use. They’re simple. They’re effective. I share the 2 that resonate most with me daily:
2. I will NOT Worry. (Imagine having faith in the Universe. Imagine being in the NOW)
3. I will be compassionate to all living beings. (This starts with the self)
4. 10-15 minutes of Pranayama – Breathwork & Mindful Breathing. I practice 2-3 pranayams daily. My favourites are the Ujjaii, Nadi Sodhana and Bhastrika – which then prepares me for my 15-20 meditation practice. (See beginner’s meditation below. Use same technique for mindful breathing).
5. My 15-20 minute meditation. (Beginner’s meditation can simply be bringing your attention to your breath, observing each inhale and following it’s path to the abdomen, feeling the abdomen expand, then exhaling, feeling the abdomen contract and following the breath all the way out. Repeat)
Sitting in silence for a few minutes or just sipping on some warm water after the above practice allows the routine to settle in and then I’m ready and armored for the day!
