Long Covid is a condition that occurs around 3 months after a person has been infected with Covid, whether or not a confirmed diagnosis. It is diagnosed when symptoms cannot otherwise be explained.
Common symptoms include fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, but can also include cardiovascular, neurological, gastrointestinal, dermatological, ear, nose and throat, musculoskeletal and psychological symptoms.
The NHS has responded to long Covid by setting up across the UK multidisciplinary clinics to perform diagnostic tests and where appropriate onward referral to a specialist. However if your symptoms do not warrant specialist treatment, treatment offered is much more limited e.g., to fatigue management, breath retraining and counselling.
Acupuncture can help treat the symptoms of long COVID. Whilst it is not a cure, it can prompt and support your body’s recovery.
Acupuncture has a successful history of treating most of the common symptoms of long COVID, for example, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, COPD, heart arrhythmias and nausea/gastric issues.
Acupuncture also reduces pain, anxiety, depression and stress, all of which can adversely affect the recovery of the immune system.
Collection of data to assess the impact of acupuncture on long Covid is in early stages, and it is too early for results from clinical trials. However, seeing positive results in clinic.
