Training Introduction
Learn to:
• Empower and prepare students for a positive pregnancy and birth experience
• Support students in this voyage of discovery – using yoga to support their pregnancy journey
How the Training Works
What will the course cover?
• Planning and teaching yoga for pregnancy at different stages of pregnancy with reference to anatomy and physiology, and yoga philosophy
• Specific Guidelines for Safety as detailed by the British Wheel of Yoga. Students will have a working knowledge of these Guidelines and be able to incorporate them into their classes.
• In-depth study of a variety of yoga postures that address the needs of pregnancy, paying particular attention to postural awareness, the pelvic floor, managing fatigue, positions for labour, and encouraging babies into the best possible position prior to birth.
Identifying situations of special need, where referral to other agencies might be appropriate.
• Exploring the teacher’s capacity to deal with grief and loss in pregnancy – both compassionately and authentically.
• Key breathing practices that are focusing, calming and applicable to pregnancy and labour.
• A variety of approaches to relaxation to support the pregnant woman.
• Developing publicity; and how to plan and teach a series of pregnancy yoga classes.
Course Dates:
Online sessions (all 2026):
Online sessions to be held on Zoom, days/times TBC
In-person sessions:
21 Feb (full day), 28 Feb (half day), 1 March (full day), 11 March (half day) and 12 April (full day)
Cost:
£660 (includes £60 fee to BWY)
Plus £20 guest membership for non-BWY members
